Web 2.0 For Real Estate Investors

Yesterday I asked you to tell me what you think the word “Virtual Real Estate Investing” means.

There were a lot of good responses, but they all boil down to just a few issues:

  1. Using the internet to find investments
  2. Using the internet to find counter-parties (such as buyers, renters, private lenders, etc)
  3. Buying and selling website domain names
  4. Buying, developing and selling existing web-based businesses
  5. Using “virtual” resources like virtual assistants, bird dogs, etc

I think that all of these are valid components of “virtual real estate investing”, and I’m really grateful to all of you who contributed to that discussion.

There were a few specific topics that caught my eye, and I’d like to begin a discussion with you about one of them today.

That topic is “Web 2.0 for Real Estate Investors”.  Fortunately, I’m blessed to have a pretty good amount of knowledge about this topic, and so I’ll provide some training to you about it in the near future.  But for now, let’s start with this definition:

“Web 2.0 is a blanket term that encompasses the way that information is shared and developed on the internet.  Some of its component parts are social networking (through services like FaceBook, MySpace, etc), video sharing (YouTube, Revver, etc), blogging (Wordpress, Technorati) and social bookmarking (Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon).”

Web 2.0 is more of a concept than a specific technology.

So with that introduction, let’s take a few minutes to discuss how we’re using Web 2.0 technologies to further our real estate investing businesses.  I’ll tell you more about how I’m using Web 2.0 in the near future, but for right now I’ll tell you that I’m getting significant benefits out of these technologies:

  • Blogging
  • Video sharing
  • Social bookmarking

What Web 2.0 technologies are you using, and how are you using them?  Let’s share so we can all be better… Use the comments area below to share your thoughts on this issue.  Thanks for visiting FreeRealEstateTraining.com!

  1. We are using Blogging to let our private investors see rehab progress via pictures. It gives them updated information for their investment group meetings.

  2. I don’t personally do this, but I would say someone in real estate could start a public/private syndicated RSS feed that updates a couple times a week with new listings/properties. Perfect for a wholesaler I would imagine.
